Says Who? & DJ Vindictiv celebrate 20 years of Illmatic with One Love remix

To commemorate the release of Illmatic, the widely-recognized-as-classic debut album by Nas that dropped 20 years ago, Says Who? & DJ Vindictiv share their remix of One Love with the world. Meanwhile crafting their experimental first record, the Dutch producers now take it back to the basics: pure hiphop with clear jazz influences.

“I was 15 when Illmatic was released,” says DJ Vindictiv. “This was one of the albums that really made an impact.” And even though hiphop has kept on growing for two decades, the record is still as sound as a bell. Says Who? agrees: “Illmatic is hiphop at its finest. The lyrics are poetry and all of the production is immaculate. Is that a cliché?”

Says Who? & DJ Vindictiv vieren 20 jaar Illmatic met One Love remix

Het wijd en zijd als klassieker bestempelde album Illmatic van de New Yorkse rapper Nas bestaat twintig jaar. Says Who? & DJ Vindictiv releasen daarom hun remix van One Love. De Middelburgse producers, die intussen aan hun debuutplaat werken, laten horen waar ze goed in zijn: hiphop als basis met veel invloed van jazz.

“Ik was 15 toen Illmatic uitkwam,” vertelt DJ Vindictiv. “Dit was één van de albums die toen insloegen als een bom.” En al heeft hiphop twee decennia lang verder kunnen groeien, nog steeds staat de plaat als een huis, vindt ook Says Who?: “Het is meer dan hiphop. Tekstueel is het poëzie en productioneel klopt alles. Is dat een cliché?”

‘Oceans’, a soulful blend from The Netherlands

Music lovers, don’t miss out on this. Oceans is a beautiful track by Dutch producers Says Who? & DJ Vindictiv. It’s a taster of their forthcoming project, blending hip hop, afro, soul and jazz with raw electronics, crazy tempos, breaks and more experimental sounds.

From the US to Brazil and back
After the duo presented their Fremdvibes EP in 2010 and shared their little give-away Breezy pt. I & II last year, Oceans is a new step in the direction of their full-length album. It was released in January in cooperation with The Find Magazine.

Said DJ Vindictiv: “We are very happy to release this track together with The Find, always on point. So far we’re gretting great responses, from New York to São Paulo and back to The Netherlands, where for instance radio station Sublime FM already played it. Superb!”

Update time!

Hi There,

It’s been a while right? So let’s chat a bit.

Had a bunch of cool gigs this past summer solo and with Pieter Matthys & Sons Uniques.  Also did some stagemanagement work for festivals and ofcourse enjoyed the sun.

At the moment i’m doing some pre-production work for the new record we are working on. Pieter and i will do most of the production on the album,he asked me to work with him on it. The answer was yes…i feel honoured to be asked. It’s gonna be a dope lesson and trip.

Apart from that the homie SaysWho? and me are still putting in work for our album. It’s going great i must say…some real diversity is being created! Also some ideas on guestvocalists and musician’s is getting shape! Also working on a remix ep or whatever you wanna call it:-) Some beats are not gonna make it to the album. But are still very good for something like a remix project. Soon you will hear something new! An interview with TheFindMag has taken place and we will let you know when it goes up!

Unbreakable scratch battle Antwerp, Belgium 2013 and more…

Hello to all!

Last saturday i entered a scratch battle for the first time in nearly 10 years!! What was i thinking? 🙂

Had a lot of fun! The level of competitors was high (as always in Belgium) and things went well. I got to the semi-final where i lost to DJ Madfingaz, it was real close but well deserved. Go check him out one hell of a dj!  www.crap-inc.com/artists/madfingaz

And the live/shows section has had an update. Working on bookings for this summer,so far a couple of nice festivals solo or with Pieter Matthys & Sons Uniques. This friday we are doing a try-out in Ardooie, Belgium.

Hi to all!

Just did a small update on the shows/live section. Looks like Pieter Matthys & Sons Uniques again are play some summerfestivals this year! The first few are in. We might see you there:-)

In the meantime i am also working on a new mix…more of that at the end of april beginning of may. So far i am ok with what i’m doing! Stay tuned on that…

My friend Says Who? and i are still slowly working on our firts full lenght album. We already have bunch of demo’s and a few songs that are already near complete!
